About CRX Starter

Who we are

CRX Starter is made by a small independent team that builds browser tools. We're not affiliated with Google. The extension is free, and we'd like to keep it that way: no paid tier, no ads inside the packages you run.

Why we built it

Plenty of useful extensions never make it to the Chrome Web Store — a tool a coworker passes around, a test build from a developer, a side project on GitHub, an older version you saved. Chrome makes these hard to run on purpose, and the usual workaround (Developer Mode and "Load unpacked") leaves a warning on every restart and tells you nothing about what the extension can do.

We built CRX Starter so that running one of these packages comes with a pause to read it first. The check exists because "what can this see?" is the question people ask us most — so we answer it before the install button, not after.

What we don't do

We don't host or mirror extensions, and we don't download packages from the Chrome Web Store for you. You bring the file or the link; CRX Starter opens it in your browser. Packages you drop in aren't uploaded to us.
